Symbolic Elements at Your Wedding

The essential ingredients of a celebrant-led wedding are based around personalisation of your journey as a couple, your collaboration with your celebrant and the flexibility of your celebrant to arrange a ceremony in-keeping with your wishes. From your favourite Readings or family traditions to well chosen symbolic elements.

A celebrant-led wedding is a unique event, tailored to your wants and wishes! It can include so many different elements. Why not ask your favourite uncle to recite a humourous poem in a way that only he can! (Check out my weekly insta posts for Reading suggestions!) Watch your precious pooch walking down the aisle as the ring bearer. You may even want to sing your vows to each other. Anything is possible when you choose a celebrant.

What about symbolic elements?

You might choose sand blending. This is a beautiful way to create a unique keepsake from your special day. By pouring the sand into your chosen container, you are symbolically blending your lives together. You are showing those present your commitment to each other. This can be especially poignant where children are part of your lives and they can participate meaningfully in this ritual.

Another lovely element is the unity candle ceremony. You each light a candle representing your individual identities. These two candles will then light the unity candle as you join together for the future. Why not share this moment with family members, representing the joining together of your two families.

I have created two symbolic elements:

With the element ‘Heart to Heart’, you exchange rose quartz hearts. Rose quartz is often known as the ‘heart stone’ or ‘stone of love’. Each heart represents the love you have for the other. During the ceremony, you give your heart to your partner and accepts theirs in return. These hearts are then placed in a container of your choice – perhaps a family heirloom or holiday ceramic – which you can display in your home. A beautiful and lasting reminder of this day and the vows you made to each other.

For the gardening (or cooking!) enthusiasts, I created the ritual ‘Nurture Your Love, Bring Good Luck to Your Home’. It centres on a rosemary plant. Rosemary symbolised protection. It has been used for centuries to bring good fortune to new homes. During your ceremony, loved ones can participate by watering the plant, blessing your union and your home. It is a lovely way to include family and friends whilst creating a symbol to take home and nurture.

There are many symbolic elements we can explore together. Take a look at my wedding package here. Contact me for an initial free consultation to see how we can work together.
